The Child at Heart Art Gallery opened in July 2001 in historic
downtown Newburyport Massachusetts. The Gallery offers a wide variety
of art suitable for children’s environments, from original
children’s book illustrations to whimsical prints. Though
created for children, the appeal is ageless.
Art from children’s books was created to
tell a story or strike an emotional chord. From Classic Fairy Tales
to Contemporary stories, visitors are delighted to experience the
art as it stands alone...and within the broader context of the story.
It’s all here -- humor, nostalgia, love, joy, contentment,
longing, sadness, triumph, mischievousness, mystery, fun, heroism
... and more! A wonderful plus is the illustrator community that
supports the Gallery, and supports the community with visits, book
signings, and entertaining programs.

| Paul, Megan, Mary McDonough |
Mary and Paul McDonough (proprietors, owners, window washers,
etceteras) founded the business after 30 (or so) years of corporate
responsibilities (Paul - mostly marketing and market research) and
early childhood development (Mary - Montessori education, Headstart,
children’s librarian; Mary & Paul (parenthood)). The Gallery
location marks their 6th (or is it 7th) state of residence. The
Gallery itself, more importantly, reflects a combination of avocation
and vocation; and offers a terrific opportunity to grow and learn.
(Did we mention that we have two grown daughters and one perfectly
gifted granddaughter?)
